California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
There will be a non-denominational appreciation and memorial service in honor of fire fighting, law enforcement, and support personnel for the Leonard Fire, the Darby Fire, and the National disaster. The service will be held at 7:30 PM tonight, September 14, at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. The traffic pattern will be as with the County Fair, entering through the South Gate, and follow the directional signs. San Andreas - The Darby Fire has consumed approximately 14,000 acres and is 81% contained. The fire is contained along the northwesterly line and along the Stanislaus River, within Calaveras County. The crews and air support will again work aggressively along the east flank in an effort to contain that portion of the fire in Tuolumne County. Full containment is now expected Sunday September 16 at 6:00 PM. Full control is expected Friday, September 21 at 6:00 PM. There have been 28 injuries and one travel trailer has been destroyed. The suppression cost to date is $14.3 million. The CDF Emergency Watershed Protection and the USFS Burn Area Emergency Rehabilitation teams will begin rehabilitation evaluations today. The teams review both the suppression impacts, such as the fire lines constructed by hand crews and dozers, and the fire impacts to determine the extent of repair and rehabilitation needed. Big Trees State Park will remain closed to the public through the weekend. CDF is using the area for staging equipment and personnel. There are 283 engines and 3,118 fire personnel, 45 bulldozers, 32 water tenders, 9 air tankers, and 13 helicopters. Equipment and crews are also staging throughout Mount Knight, Jupiter, Oak Hollow and Twain Hart in Tuolumne County. Love Creek Road will be restricted to residents only through the weekend. Residents must be prepared to show identification. For information regarding road restrictions or closures, call the CHP San Andreas Office from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM at 754-3541 and at their Stockton Dispatch center after 5:00 PM at 943-8600.
